House Churches

What Are House Churches?

A house church is simply a small group of people that meets in someone’s home for the purpose of helping, encouraging and inspiring each other. So often in our lives, situations become so complex that only a true friend, who knows us and the unique circumstances of our lives can truly help us work through those situations. House churches provide an atmosphere where those kinds of friendships can be forged and where we can spend time helping each other grow in our faith through the various seasons of life. Since the beginning of the Church, Christians have met together, not only in public places, but also in people’s homes (Acts 2:42-47).

What Happens During A House Church meeting?

House church meetings will often consist of sharing meals, praying, teaching, and sometimes singing. Occasionally house churches will also use their meeting time to help out fellow house church members or a neighbor by doing yard work, house painting and the like. It’s not a rare occurrence to see a house church simply having a good time together enjoying anything from a party, to a night at the movies, to a float trip down the Buffalo River.

When And Where Do House Churches Meet?

Each house church independently decides when and where it will meet. The best way to find out about meeting times and locations is to contact the house church leader directly.

Scripture of the day

Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. (Hebrews 13:16, ESV)
